Baronsmede

Baronsmede was registered as a residential care home for people with learning disabilities in March 1986 and was the first service that was set up by Dee Tormey, the founder of the organisation. As a registered nurse for people with learning disabilities, she had worked in both the NHS and other care services before purchasing the property in December of 1985. Following changes to layouts to make it fit for purpose, the home was originally registered for up to six adults. Over the coming years the accommodation was extended and changed to support additional placements for up to ten people including en-suite facilities in all the rooms. From 2010 additional changes were made to the property to start the separation of the two halves of the house to provide a separate supported living service from Autumn 2019.

Baronsmede is now able to offer spacious living accommodation for up to four people who require higher levels of support on account of severe learning disabilities, epilepsy, autistic spectrum and behavioural challenges. The home offers individuals' opportunities to live in homely and comfortable surroundings with support to make choices and live fulfilled lives.
